Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression Therapy who is it for?

Any back, leg, neck or shoulder pain caused in whole or part by a damaged disc may be helped by spinal decompression therapy. These conditions include herniated, protruding or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica or radiculopathy (pinched nerves).

How does it work?

You are secured to a table that can extend. We program the machine's protocol specific to your disc problem and your body weight. As it stretches you out, space is restored between your vertebrae. Over time, the pressure is relieved on the nerves and allows everything to come back to where it supposed to be. For the discs themselves, which due to being compressed so long, have become dehydrated - it allows them to rehydrate and prevent further collapse.

How long does it take?

This is not a quick fix it is something you have to do, consistently, over a series of several weeks.

Is it done on its own?

In the acute phase, typically adjustments and E-stim are used, in addition to your Spinal Decompression, three to four times a week…after the acute phase is passed and you are feeling better, we will add in rehab therapy to strengthen your muscles and keep your discs in line.

Are there conditions where Spinal Decompression Therapy is not recommended?

Spinal Decompression is not recommended for pregnant women, or patients who have severe osteoporosis, severe obesity, or severe nerve damage. It is not recommended for patients over 70, or those who have had spinal surgery with instrumentation (screws, metal plates or "cages"). Surgery to the disc without fusion, or fusion using bony replacement is acceptable; however, every patient is evaluated on an individual basis.
